Pregnancy

Possibly one of the most important times to receive chiropractic care for a woman is during pregnancy. From conception the body can undergo quite the change with changes in posture, muscle tone and ligamentous stability/tension – the result can be undesired discomforts and even pain.

The spine is made up of 33 vertebrae all of which attach to various muscles and ligaments and other bony anatomy. The spine is also a vitally important anatomical structure which carries the nervous system and all its relevant communication. Chiropractors believe keeping the body in balance and making sure all of the above are working harmoniously is important to health and what better time to take care of this than when you are pregnant.

Chiropractic has the upmost regard to safety and recognises the important of taking care of pregnant ladies with gentle techniques. We can even adjust the bench accordingly with professionally designed pregnancy pillows to suit your needs.

Common symptoms we come across in pregnant ladies present with discomforts relates to the back/pelvis, groin, hip, ribs, head and neck.

Chiropractic care for

pregnancy

  • Does Chiropractic care hurt?
The majority of patients in our care have reported they feel a relief after having a chiropractic adjustment.
  • If I go to a Chiropractor, will I have to go for the rest of my life?"
After ‘corrective care’ comes ‘maintenance care’ - this is a check-up of your spine every so often, which is like having a service check done on your car to ensure continued spinal health.
  • If I am under Chiropractic care, do I still need to take my pain medication?"
The guidance of your medication is to be advised and managed by the care provider who prescribed this medication. However, evidence shows that chiropractic care commonly provides pain relief for many patients to the extent that they do not need as frequent pain medication.
  • I 'POP' my own back so why do I need to see a Chiropractor?
Its highly advised that you don't try to forcefully manipulate your own spine. Chiropractors have trained for many years to specifically and gently adjust joints in the right manner, location and direction. It is very difficult to precisely and safely do this to yourself.
  • From what age can a patient receive Chiropractic care?
A patient may receive Chiropractic care from any age. The Doctor of Chiropractic will change the dynamics of how they treat depending on age and condition and will always do this with the patient’s safety and comfort in mind.
  • Is Chiropractic care safe in pregnancy?
Chiropractic care is safe in pregnancy and there are various techniques and procedures that the Chiropractor will have learnt to ensure this is the case.
  • Is treatment over once my baby is born?
It is recommended for you to have a postpartum Chiropractic re-evaluation a few weeks following the birth of your child due to the ligamental changes and repositioning of the body.
  • How many treatments do I require?
The number of treatments depends on a patient’s individual case. After the consultation and examination, the chiropractor will analyse and develop a treatment plan that is specific to your case. There will be an end date for your corrective care and the chiropractor will go through this plan with you at the report of findings stage.
